Member Update from the Board of Directors

Hello Fellow Huntley Curling Members;

With summer in full swing in the shadow of COVID-19 and social distancing, we wanted to update you on our planning for next year’s curling season.

We are expecting Curling Canada and Curl ON to provide public health approved guidelines to curling clubs shortly. Then the Board of Directors will have to determine how best to apply the guidance to curling at Huntley. Our goal of keeping members safe and curling enjoyable will drive these decisions.

Impact on Registration for Next Season

On June 1st, next season’s registration opened. Last year’s league teams will have preference until August 31st. So far, nearly 100 members have registered.

We understand the anxiety of registering and committing your fees without knowing what ‘social distancing curling’ really means. The Board wants to mitigate your anxiety by answering a couple of common questions right now:

What if Social Distance Curling is Not Fun for me?

With the Carp Fair being cancelled we are opening on October 5th, one week early, so you should have about four weeks to decide if you enjoy ‘social distancing curling’. If you do not wish to continue curling just tell us before November 1st and we will give you a full refund.

What If There’s Another Shut Down like Last March?

If before November 1st the government mandates a full provincial shut down, the club will offer full refunds. If our season is cut short by a mandated shutdown after November 1st you will be entitled to a prorated refund.

Knowing that we are flexible and sensitive we hope you will register sooner rather than later.

What to Expect Next

Throughout the next few weeks of planning for next season be assured that member safety and enjoyment is of the utmost importance to your Board.

By late August or September, we will provide an update with as much information as we have about the coming curling season.  We are hoping to be able to start the season as usual, taking all precautions that are warranted.

In the meantime, if you have questions or concerns about the coming season, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Let’s all go and enjoy our summer and look forward to curling again.
