Huntley Curling Club is in the progress of moving from our old website system to here with content being transferred over the next few months. Registration for the new season will take place through this site and the 2024-25 season will see us leverage new online functionality for many of our leagues.
Earlier this fall, a committee was formed to look at migrating HCC to using software that would
- Make registration for leagues and events easier, including tracking of number of spots open and taken
- Provide the ability for members to see league schedules and standings online
- Provide options to make it easier for league convenors to build and manage schedules
- Provide options to allow event results and news viewable in the club during the event
- Continue to provide options for posts about league news be viewed by members-only or the general public
- Lower annual costs
- Leverage software that is used by other clubs and will see new features and support in the coming years
- Make visiting the site and interacting with online league functionality easier through use of mobile devices like phones and tablets
The committee’s final selection was to go with Curling Club Manager (CCM), developed and maintained by Paul McDonald. Paul wrote the software to help his home club in Halifax and it is now used by clubs throughout Canada including many in the Ottawa region.
We are working to prepare for the site to go live later this month and members will use it to register for the 2024-25 season starting on June 1st. Through late April and early June, members will receive an instructions detailing how they can activate their CCM account which simply consists in setting your account password. Activating your account in May will help make it easier when you are ready to register for next season after June 1st. Help materials will be provided and support given for anyone who might encounter difficulties in logging on to the new site.
The site will look different from how our current website does. The goal of the web team will be to provide a clean look with easy to use navigation. This transition is also giving us a chance to review how information may be organized and also dropping any content that is no longer relevant.
Leveraging the online schedules and other league functionality, members will be presented with up-to-date news and announcements that are time-sensitive and should not wait for the next monthly newsletter. League and event organizers will be provided instructions and guidance on how they may wish to run a league or event going forward.
More details as things become relevant and functional will be shared with the membership. Future newsletters and posts will help advise of new or replaced functionality through tips and videos.
