Last year we shared news about David S. Florig's debut novel, The Stones of Ailsa Craig. That novel was named Best Historical Fiction of 2023 by Indies Today. The author is not thrilled to announce his second novel, The Shattered Curling Stone, is now available.
The Shattered Curling Stone, also a work of historical fiction, is set in 1880s Scotland and tells the story of young Ailsa Maclaren, who takes up curling at a time when women weren't really welcome in the sport:
Girls weren't supposed to curl in 1880s Scotland. Curling was a sport that men played. "The manly Scottish exercise," they called it. That didn't matter to Ailsa Maclaren, a twelve-year-old lass who took to the ice to learn the game from her father, over the oft-repeated objections of the mouthy John Carswell. Ailsa's curling journey takes her to the first women's bonspiel in Scotland, the Scottish Women's Championship, and the World Championship in Canada. Along the way, she meets the charming and very, very handsome Lucas Plotcok. And therein lies the real tale . .
The Shattered Curling Stone pays homage to the early women curling pioneers, but also to bold, pioneering women in all walks of life. The Shattered Curling Stone is rich in the history of women's curling, both real and fictional.
The Shattered Curling Stone features a Foreword by the fabulous Cheryl Bernard, Tw0-Time Olympian and President and CEO of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.
