SIGNUP PROCESS:Rowan's Law (Do Not Delete!)

BACKGROUND

Rowan’s Law  (Concussion Safety), 2018 is Ontario legislation designed to protect amateur athletes and to educate coaches and officials about the dangers of head injuries. The law is named for Rowan Stringer, a 17 year old rugby player who tragically died after sustaining concussions.

Rowan’s Law  places a number of obligations on sport organizations, including curling clubs. Specifically, HCC is legally required to:

  • Establish Codes of Conduct for athletes, Coaches, Trainers and Officials
  • Establish Removal from Sport and Return to Sport Protocols,
  • Ensure that athletes under 26 years of age, and parents of atheletes under 18, confirm every year that they have reviewed Ontario's Concussion Awareness Resources and PECC's Athletes Concussion Code of Conduct prior to registration.
  • Ensure that coaches, team trainers and officials confirm every year that they have reviewed one of Ontario's Concussion Awareness Resources and PECC's Coaches Concussion Code of Conduct prior to serving as a coach, team trainer or official.

I/WE declare that we have read and understood a Concussion Awareness Resource for the appropriate age group (Age 10 & Under, Age 11-14, or Age 15 & Older) as required by Ontario Law for anyone under the age of 26 to be able to participate in organized sports.
