On Friday 7 November six Mixed teams from Scotland descended on Huntley CC, four of whom competed against our Mixed teams in a single match, as part of their tour of Ottawa Region’s curling clubs. They had been competing all week and finish off in a grand finale at the Hunt on Sunday, completing this year’s version of the Ottawa Valley Goodwill Tour (OVGT).
It was a very memorable event, with fierce competition from all teams, but also much fun and camaraderie. Huntley teams were skipped by David Cormier, Blake Sinclair, Rick Gladstone and Thomas Watters. Although all our teams started ahead, only David and Blake’s teams prevailed, running away with their scores. The others fell behind once the Scots figured out the ice.

And what competitors! The Scots teams included the 2023 and 2024 Scotland Masters Men’s Champions, a female Olympian representing Great Britain in 1992, the Ladies Silver medallist at 2023 Scotland Masters, Scotland Senior Men’s Champion in 2012, and six others who have represented either Scotland, Ireland or England at multiple World competitions at various age levels. So Huntley did very well in such exalted company!

Team FRLAN had an amazing weekend at the OVCA Superspiel where they competed against teams from the Ottawa Valley, USA, Switzerland and Nova Scotia.
The team made it to the Womens Final where they faced a strong Team Schwaller from Switzerland. However, the Huntley Rink brought their 'A' game and Team Schwaller conceded in the 7th end. Team FRLAN are the 2025 Brokerlink OVCA Superspiel Womens Champions!
The team would like to thank Tom Sinclair, the OVCA and all the organizers for all the work that went into this prestigious event. Team Perry of Newfoundland won the Mens championship.

Team FRLAN's next event is the Imperial Slam Nov 14 -16 in Dundas, ON.

Expert-led sessions designed to teach and improve curling skills, ranging from basic techniques for beginners to advanced strategies for experienced players. They cover various aspects of the game, including delivery, sweeping, strategy, and rules.

Two Mens teams and one Womens team competed at a Club Championship Qualifier held in Cornwall last month. Team Leganchuk (Andrea Leganchuk, Lesley Ryan, Tracy Samaan, Lidia Cormier) came strong out of the gate beating their opponents from Ottawa Hunt Club 11-3 but then were defeated by a pair of teams from Metcalfe. They finished the weekend 1-2.
Team Tremblay (Marc Tremblay, Gary Lennie, Barry Brown, Jelle Blom) lost a very close opening match but then won 2 straight before losing their 2nd game and ending their run, finishing 2-2 for the weekend.
Our other Men’s representatives, Team Cormier (David Cormier, Ross Cotten, Graham Allan, Don Campbell), made the most of their trip to Cornwall by playing a lot of games overall. They won the opener but then dropped to the B-side with a close loss in their 2nd game. But 2 further wins got them within a game of the playoffs. But a loss to Team Cochrane (Russell) ended their weekend with an overall positive record of 3-2, having played a lot of curling over the 3 days of the event. Note, Team Cochrane won the Provincial title this past weekend in Kingston.

The 2025 Carp Fair was a big success for us this year. We had beautiful weather and really big turn out of visitors to the fair. Our BBQ tent worked super hard and did an amazing job. We almost sold out our entire stock which is amazing feat. Our breakfast service is growing with each and every year we do it. We set a new record with by servicing 220 plates this year which was a 40 plate increase from last year.
This brings us to our newest event. The Carp Fair Curling and Cows bonspiel! It was huge success. With a full complement of 16 teams the ice was full from morning till night. We had great food served up by Toogood’s kitchen and fantastic music performed by Jaxstraw. Teams expressed how good the event was and that they had never participated in anything like it before. Teams competed for either the A or B championship all day Saturday and playoffs on Sunday. After much battling our own Team McLean came out on top to be the first champion of Carp Fair curling. We were proud to have Joyce Trafford come out from the fair board to present our winners with trophy. Our B champion was the Ian Biggs team out of the North Grenville curling club.
I would like to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers this year, without them we wouldn’t be able to do these events.

The Huntley Curling Club would like to share an important update with our members and community.
Over the past 15 years, Dwayne Lowe and his wife Jackie, have been an integral part of our club and community, ensuring top-quality ice conditions and supporting countless bonspiels, leagues, and events with professionalism and care. We are incredibly grateful to Dwayne for his years of hard work, commitment, and contribution to the success of our club.
For the upcoming 2025-2026 season, the board is pleased to announce Paul Norman will be taking on head icemaker and the club manager role.
Paul is a very familiar face around the club, having been both on the board of directors and a key member of the ice team for several years. Paul is a trained Level 2 ice technician and continues to take higher level courses. He is also an inaugural member of Curling Canada's new Association of Curling Professionals program, being one of the first graduates as an Associate Pro and he is continuing certification leading to Club Professional, one of the first eight in Canada. Paul's passion, expertise and professional acumen will be a tremendous asset to Huntley and we are very privileged to have him accept this role.
We look forward to having Dwayne and Jackie remain part of our community and stay tuned for details on an event to honour their contributions to the club.
