A heartfelt thank you to Dave for your many years of service as our Head Coach. Your dedication and commitment have been instrumental to the success of our program, and we wish you all the best in your next chapter.

Today (Sunday, April 6) we celebrated our skill awards and marked the completion of our Learn to Curl (L2C) program, with participants moving on to our Little Rock or U15 programs. We're excited to welcome Sharon as the new Head Coach of our Youth Program starting next season! Pam will officially claim the title of Youth Coordinator

We also presented three special trophies:

President Jeff Bird awarded Lifetime Honorary Membership status to Laurie and Ross Cotten, who have done so much for the club over the past 20+ years, especially for the Youth program. This includes educating son David so that he could rise to his current high-level coach status. A well deserved reward to the parents for many years of selfless volunteering. Thanks Laurie and Ross!

Youth Coach David Cotten is retiring after 7 years of coaching the Little Rocks program. He was presented with an actual "Little Rock" with handle engravings to indicate that the club is extremely grateful for his extensive volunteer time developing our newer young curlers. Thanks David!

This year's Cathy Shane Memorial Bonspiel was an overwhelming success. With a full 16 teams the ice was full all day with teams playing creative styles of curling. We rotated positions(a Sandy favourite), curling crokinole and a rather entertaining game of curling minesweeper.  Whitney Toogood as always pleased the crowd with her meals which never disappoint.

After all the teams played their three games we finally had a winner. Team Mundy finished with the highest points for the day. Their team included Cory Mundy, Sherrie Mundy, Donna Shane-Zanderbelt and Sharon Shane-Chambers. As an added bonus Donna and Sharon are both Cathy's sisters which made the win so much more special.

The Event closed but did not end as Live music performed by Rick Picard and Lindsay Chunik entertained the crowd as we enjoyed our dinner and got to witness the amazing club championship finals.

Huntley's annual Club Championships were held this past week, to determine our top teams in the A, B and C divisions in our Competitive leagues, as well as the top team from our various Social leagues. The teams involved and the match results can be seen on this link.

Over 5 days the top teams from each division in 12 leagues battled it out in single-knockout drama over Quarter-finals, Semi-finals and then the Finals held on Saturday night, just after completion of the Cathy Shane closing bonspiel. The A-Final was hotly contested between two of the best teams in the club and came down to the last rock. The club was really abuzz with an energetic vibe with both events happening at the same time, and it was a great way to finish the season!

There were numerous awards presented afterward - Youth awards presented by Youth Coach David Cotten, and Club Championship awards presented by Match Director Jim Collings. The season's various trophy awards can be seen below.

Team Frlan (Katrina Frlan, Erika Wainwright, Samantha Wall, Lauren Norman) were presented their U18 Provincial banner by club member and Curl Ontario Board member Gina Grosenick. What a wonderful season for our own Huntley team that we can be supremely proud of. This banner will be posted in the lounge alongside their other U18 Provincial banner from 2 years ago

This season a new league was created to primarily provide graduates from this season's two Learn To Curl classes somewhere to continue to grow their skills and experience the fun of curling. This league ran from January through March and some experienced club members were on-hand to help answer questions or provide strategy tips when asked. 

The winners of this inaugural season are Team Murray comprised of Keith Murray, Cindy Partridge, Nathalie Wagner and Peter Hachey.

Team Frlan competed in the recent U20 Nationals in Summerside PEI and went 5-3 in pool A to fall one game short of the four way tie for first in their pool amongst the 6-2 teams.  Although the team did not make the playoffs, they competed in every game and did beat the eventual silver medalists Quebec 1.  Much valuable experience was gained in competing at the top junior level in Canada and the girls had a great time on and off of the ice.  Lessons learned from PEI will serve the team well next year as they have announced they will stay together for another season even though some members may be going to university outside of Ottawa. 

The team would like to thank the Huntley Curling Club and all its members for their generous ice time and for supporting their fund raising efforts for attending two National events this year.  Also, our sponsors are key to competing at this level and we would like to thank all of them but especially our title sponsor Scotiabank and Huntley's own Burnt Rock Curling Company.

The initial Huntley Triathlon was held on March 22nd.  This fun event provided an opportunity for participants to take part in three disciplines: darts, curling and of course Curling! We witnessed a fine display of finesse, mental sharpness and competitive yet friendly spirit.

The event winner was Team Bradley, the majority of the players are graduates of our ever popular Learn to Curl Program. Second Place was claimed by Team Galipeau...the skip is a recent grad of L2C, his teammates are "rookie" curlers. Third Place was claimed by Team Collings, the skip being a seasoned curler with a team of enthusiastic players.

Thanks to Sean Lynch for helping with registration, Whitney for the tasty lunch, Katie for her great bar service, Tom Watters and Cam Ghent for sharing their knowledge of darts, Dwayne and Kevin for the fantastic ice conditions, Burnt Rock Curling for their donation, those that helped with scoring and the ladies that donated baking.

A good time was had by all...looking forward to Triathlon 2026 

As the Curling season winds down, it is time to think about Golf. Our Annual Huntley Golf Tournament is once again being held on June 28th at the Greensmere Golf and Country Club with dinner to follow at the curling club. The sign up is now open:

Another Little Rock Bonspiel was held at Huntley on March 15th. Huntley had 7 teams competing along with 9 teams from other regional clubs. Both draws were won by Huntley teams.

The Huntley team of Lenora Homulos, Carole Hamilton, Gisele Cyr and Judie Carrigan participated in the Perth Ladies Black and White bonspiel celebrating that club's 150th anniversary on March 12, 2025 and were the overall winners!

Host club, the Arnprior Curling Club, fielded a strong team that came out on top in this year's Presidents Challenge Cup. Arnprior CC's teams won 4 of the 7 divisions and accumulated a winning total of 565.5 points. This was 83 more than 2nd place Huntley CC's total of 482.5 points. Richmond CC placed third with 442 points followed by Almonte with 355 points.

After surveying the club and analyzing the results, we will be adding several new leagues for next season in the hopes that we can find sufficient room for our burgeoning population of curlers. Following are the new additions:

• A new Come & Curl league Wednesday afternoon at 12:45
• A new Open Daytime league Friday afternoon at 12:30
• A new Ladies Fixed league Sunday evening at 7:00
• Adult Learn to Curl will be offered as one session only Sunday evening at 4:30 for the first half of the season and a Learn to Curl league with coaching for the second half.
